Kylian Mbappe stated that French President Emmanuel Macron has no influence on his career decisions as he lost his temper Thursday when asked about his future with the Ligue 1 champions.
Mbappe informed PSG in a letter that he had no intention of extending his 2024-expiring contract, but he subsequently clarified that he had not asked the French club to allow him to join Real Madrid.
When Mbappe was linked to a transfer away from PSG in 2021, Macron urged him to remain with the club and continue playing in the French top division.
The French media reported earlier this week that Macron would lobby for Mbappe to remain, but the 24-year-old reiterated his intention to remain with PSG for the upcoming season.
“What is the president’s influence? In my career today, in 2023, there is no effect. My objective is to remain in Paris, as he desires that I do so. Mbappe told reporters ahead of Friday’s European Championship qualifier between France and Gibraltar that “we’re on the same wavelength.”
“Will I be leaving PSG? I’ve already responded, stating that my goal is to remain at PSG, which is currently my only option. I am prepared to return when preseason play resumes.
I did not believe that a letter could murder someone or that I had offended anyone.
PSG faces the dilemma of allowing Mbappe to play out the final year of his contract while being unable to recoup the €180 million ($196.94 million) they paid AS Monaco in 2017 to acquire the forward.
According to ESPN, Madrid is prepared to make a proposal for Mbappe this summer, with PSG willing to listen to offers in the region of €150 million ($161.5 million) rather than risk losing him for free next year.
While Mbappe has stated that he wishes to remain in Paris for the upcoming season, sources close to the club’s dressing room have told ESPN that he has informed teammates that he has not ruled out a move this summer.
The player’s preferred destination, according to sources, if he were to depart PSG this summer is Madrid. Mbappe has been the leading scorer in Ligue 1 for the past five seasons.
“I’ve been accustomed to it since I was a child. I am contemplating tomorrow’s contest. This is my sole concern,” he stated.
“Outside events are secondary; I’ve always managed to do both. I want to demonstrate my greatness as a player tomorrow.” Didier Deschamps also supported Mbappe, who was appointed team captain in March.
“We have numerous conversations with Kylian, the squad captain… “He’s committed to the team,” said Deschamps.
“He’s just as tense as usual. He is constantly in the spotlight, and even more so recently, but that has no effect on him or the group.
