Paris Saint Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has been named the most valuable player in the world by the CIES Football Observatory.
The CIES Football Observatory does this annually a week before the transfer window officially opens. Kylian Mbappe tops the list after snubbing Real Madrid to sign a new three years 650,000 Euros contract at Paris Saint Germain.
This season’s Uefa Champions League young player of the season Vinicius Junior came second with a transfer value of £158.4million. Vinicius Junior was impressive this season for Real Madrid both in the Spanish La Liga and the Champions League. He scored 22 goals and provided 20 assists in 54 appearances for Real Madrid last season including the match-winning goal in the Champions League finals against Liverpool.
Erling Haaland was named the third most valuable player in 2022 with a market value of £130.4m and the most valuable player in the Premier League. The 21 years old just completed a move to Premier League Champions Manchester City. The Citizens triggered his 63 million release clause at Dortmund.
Haaland enjoyed a successful three years at Borussia Dortmund scoring 86 goals in 89 appearances.
Barcelona youngster Pedri also made the list as the fourth most valuable player with £115.5m. Pedro had a fantastic season with Barcelona despite the Catalan giants ending the season with no silverware. The 21 years old saw his season marred with injuries but managed to make 21 appearances for Barcelona scoring 4 goals in the process.
Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham completed the top five most valuable players in the World with £114.3m and the most expensive British player only Manchester City’s Phil Foden comes close with a market value of £106m.
The Premier League had the most players on the list with 41 players in the Top 100. Manchester City’s Kelvin De Bruyne is the oldest player to be named on the list with a £48.9m market value. Barcelona’s youngster Gavi is the youngest player to make the list with a value of £50m at the age of 17.

The CIES comes out with players’ transfer value based on their performance during the season, the salary the player earns and the number of years remaining on his contracts.
