Khushbu began her career as a juvenile performer in the 1980 Hindi film The Burning Train, performing the song “Teri Hai Zameen Tera Aasman.” She appeared in the Hindi films Naseeb, Laawaris, Kaalia, Dard Ka Rishta, and Bemisal as a juvenile actor between 1980 and 1985.
She debuted in a supporting role as Anil Kapoor’s younger sibling in the 1985 Hindi film Meri Jung, which received widespread acclaim. Her duet routine with Javed Jaffrey to the famous song “Bol Baby Bol, Rock’n Roll” became popular. In the same year, she was cast opposite veteran actor Jackie Shroff in her first leading role in the film Jaanoo. Khushbu performed a significant supporting role alongside Aamir Khan and Madhuri Dixit in the 1990 film Deewana Mujh Sa Nahin.
In the Telugu film Kaliyuga Pandavulu (1986), D Ramanaidu and K Raghavendra Rao introduced Khushbu to South Indian audiences alongside Venkatesh, who also made his film debut in this movie. Khushbu relocated to Chennai and began concentrating on the Tamil and other South Indian film industries.

She was the INC’s National Spokesperson. Kushbu was a vocal critic of Narendra Modi’s policies and frequently took to Twitter to express his displeasure with the government.
She resigned from the Congress on October 12, 2020, and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party the next day, just in time for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2021.
