Robinson had dedicated her life to bringing attention to the plight of crime victims in the years after 2002 when she was kidnapped by a serial killer named Richard Evonitz.
Kara Robinson, who was 15 years old then, was abducted by a serial killer in 2002. He coerced her into his vehicle and drove her to his Columbia, South Carolina home.
Richard Evonitz concluded that he had committed the gravest error of his criminal career when Robinson could evade capture and direct the authorities to where he was hiding. The 39-year-old man ended his life by taking his own life after leading police on a chase throughout Florida.
“Instantaneously, my body’s defense systems sprung into gear. He put a gun to my side, and it seemed as if my life was finished at that point. We eventually stopped holding dialogues with ourselves and focused our attention only on attempting to remain alive. As a consequence of this, I depended on… the appeasing reaction, which involves making an effort to co-regulate the nervous system of the other person, followed by a few short bouts of fight and freeze.”
