With her recent trip to Guatemala and Mexico, Vice President Kamala Harris appears to have succeeded in drawing more attention to the fact that she hasn’t visited the U.S.-Mexico border region.
Saturday was the 81st day that Harris hasn’t visited the region since taking on the role of manager of the Biden administration’s response to the migrant crisis.
Harris’ performance in that role drew more scrutiny Saturday, including from the hosts of Fox News’ “The Big Saturday Show.”
They claimed Harris has been sending mixed messages on immigration, at first claiming to be an “advocate” for illegal immigrants, and then traveling to Central America last week and telling migrants, “Do not come.”
Fox News contributor Sean Duffy argued that Harris may be trying to avoid the border out of concern for her own political future.
“She is going to run for president, more than likely in four years, maybe in eight, and this is a huge issue for the left-wing of the Democrat Party,” Duffy said. “She needs them to love her. If she addresses the border, she’ll have a really hard time winning the primary.
“That’s how she does it, ignores the border to the expense of the American people,” he added.
Later Saturday, Judge Jeanine Pirro, host of “Justice with Judge Jeanine,” blasted Harris for not leveling with the American people about why she’s been avoiding a border visit.
“Why can’t you answer that question? Why won’t you visit the southern border, where we’re experiencing an historic surge of illegals, the highest number we’ve seen in more than 20 years?” Pirro asked. “The president has assigned a job to you. Are you not up to it? What are you afraid of? Why is this so hard for you?
“Could it be because you want illegals to enter?” Pirro asked later. “You do want them to enter, don’t you? … You said it yourself: ‘Say it loud, say it clear, everyone is welcome here.’”
“You want to know what the ‘root causes’ are? Go to the border and find out,” she added.
Then Pirro revealed what she thought was behind Harris’ reluctance to visit the border.
“If you actually go to the border,” she said, “the press will join you and they will see the disaster the Biden administration has made in real time.”
