Chelsea became the first club among the top six clubs to sack their coach this season.
After a summer of a record spending spree and allowing Thomas Tuchel to bring in new players of his choice, Chelsea kick-started life under the new ownership.
Little did we know Chelsea was going to sack with just five matches into the season. Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb triggered the whole sacking process as it was officially confirmed that Chelsea had a part way with the German less than 24 hours after the defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.
However, Kai Havertz has revealed that he was shocked at Chelsea’s decision to sack the 47-year-old at that time of the season after allowing him to bring new players in the summer.
What did Kai Havertz say about the sacking of Thomas Tuchel?
In an interview with the Kicker, the attacking midfielder said: “Me too (it surprised me). Especially when you consider how we’ve played in the past year and a half and what we’ve won.
“With the current sixth place in the table, you can’t speak of a messed up start to the season, especially since we have many newcomers who first have to acclimatize But football is very fast-moving, a lot can happen at any time.
“Our new coach has made a very good impression. We have a great squad. I think we are in for a good time.”
Kai Havertz is widely considered as a number nine, but under Thomas Tuchel, they deployed him as a false number.
In Graham Potter’s first game in Charge as a Chelsea manager against RB Salzburg in the Champions League, the German international played behind new Chelsea number nine Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
“Of course, it’s a bit harder for me in the ten because I’ve actually only played center forward at Chelsea for the past year and a half and those are two completely different roles, “The German International added
“My position is not that important. Whether I play on the ten, on the nine, or on the right side, I want to help the team and justify the coach’s trust.
“I can put myself in any position.”
Chelsea is currently seventh on the Premier League table with 10 points, 8 shy of current Premier League leaders Arsenal. The blues are also bottom in Group E in the Champions League with just one point.
The Blues will face Crystal Palace after the international break. Chelsea will also play AC Milan in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Michy Batshuayi has revealed that he was fooled by Antonio Conte.
The Chelsea loanee told Sports: “Conte was constantly contradicting himself.
“To start with my arrival. He called me and explained his project. He wanted me to play in a two-man frontline alongside Diego Costa.
“Did I believe that? Of course, because Conte has played with two attackers all his career. Except at Chelsea with me.
“I do not understand. The truth is that I have been fooled far too often.”
Michy Batshuayi is currently on loan at Fenerbahçe S.K.
