Let no one be deceived into thinking that Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, the newly selected running-mate of former president John Mahama brings something extraordinary to the table as far as the NDC ticket for the December 7, 2020 elections is concerned.
To borrow the words of the indefatigable vice president of the republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, “the best running mate in the world will not make a difference if the President is indecisive or incompetent.”
Indeed, there is no denying the fact that Prof Opoku-Agyemang exudes academic acumen as a French & English lecturer but mind you governance is not “Je m’appelle Jane” Lol. As a matter of fact, Jane lacks the competence, camaraderie and tenacity to lead a meaningful political discourse in Ghana, let alone matchup Dr. Bawumia’s economic prowess.
Her record as a former Minister for Education is a disaster! Under her tenure, public basic schools across the country were denied chalk, a basic teaching material for effective studies. When teachers complained, she threatened them with transfers and sacks—a political shenanigan which got the tacit approval of one of her bosses, Matilda Amissah-Arthur.
She is also on record to have led the drive to cancel teacher trainee allowances against all odds rendering many out of colleges . As if that was not enough, the huge debts she left behind which have been cleared by her predecessor, Dr. Opoku-Prempeh cannot be overlooked: Feeding Grants for Colleges of Education GHs36 million, Feeding Grants for Special Schools – GHs4.7 million, SHS Subsidy–GHs24 million, Progressively Free Senior High School debt–GHs33 million, Capitation Grant, GHs8 million, GETFund debt–GHs3.7 billion etc etc.
Her records as a feminist/human rights activist is zero! Here is a woman who on August 2, 2016 signed a bogus “Montie 3” petition that got three ragamuffin rascals of the NDC namely; Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and Salifu Maase alias Mugabe released from prison after they openly threatened to rape and harm lady justices who sat on a voter register case which was ruled against the EC and by extension the John Mahama administration.
For us in the NPP, we can only wish the Professor and the NDC well in opposition for 32 years more.
