An influential member of the Republican Party has told the media that the American people have a right to more information on John Kerry’s ‘behind-closed-doors deals’ with China.
In a statement that was provided to the New York Times on Thursday, John Kerry, who serves as the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Change (SPEC) for the United States of America, said that he plans to go to China at the end of this month in order to continue climate talks with his counterparts there.
A little over a year has passed since the climate talks between the United States and China came to a standstill when then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat from California, made a high-profile visit to Taiwan. This prompted Kerry to schedule a trip to Taiwan and meet with Chinese officials. The talks have since resumed. In May, Kerry restarted behind-the-scenes climate conversations with China, and the State Department admitted that his team was planning for further in-person meetings.
Kerry told the New York Times on Thursday night, “We need genuine cooperation,” Both the United States and China have the largest economies in the world, and they are also the countries that produce the most pollution. It is absolutely clear that we have a special responsibility to negotiate and find common ground.
at the week of July 16, a trip is scheduled to take place, at which time a meeting is scheduled to take place with Xie Zhenhua, the senior climate negotiator for China.
