Samantha Cope, Lawrence’s ex-girlfriend, filed for divorce earlier this month.
Melina Alves, Joey Lawrence’s co-star, is refuting claims that she had an affair with the actor following Samantha Cope, Joey Lawrence’s wife, filing for divorce earlier this month.
“It is with a deep sadness and heavy heart that I must address the recent allegations about the relationship between myself and Joey Lawrence, which have unfortunately become a public matter,” Alves said in an Instagram post.
“As a private individual, I find it quite upsetting to witness such delicate and private matters being addressed in such an open and incorrect manner.
“First and foremost, I want to clarify that there was no sexual relationship between Joey and myself while we were on set filming ‘Socked in for Christmas,’” she said. In the movie, Alves co-starred, wrote, and produced with Lawrence.
Our connection blossomed organically as a result of the numerous parallels between our individual circumstances. Joey’s genuineness, sincerity, and friendliness greeted me the moment I met him. Our similar experiences allowed us to connect, and as a result, we developed a solid relationship that has supported and strengthened us both.”
Alves’s assertion was verified by a spokesperson for Fox News Digital. Fox News Digital reached out to Lawrence and Cope’s representatives for comment, but they did not immediately reply.
A People insider claims, “Joey got to know Melina Alves while she was a producer on the set of their film. Then he did the same to her as he had done to Samantha. Even when Samantha confronted him after learning about it, he kept dating Melina.”
The source said that although Cope had advised the two to seek counseling, Lawrence had “fooled their counselor” and was planning dates with Melina “while Sam watched, bawling her eyes out.”
According to court papers, the soon-to-be ex-wife of “Blossom” filed for divorce on August 13, two months after they separated on June 7, 2024. Two years after Lawrence and Cope’s May 2022 wedding, they separated. Dylan is their 1-year-old daughter, and Cope is requesting sole physical custody of her.
Alves went on to offer “context” to the claims made regarding her contacts with Lawrence. Her ex-husband Edward Rider and her have been “estranged” since January 2023, “living in separate rooms since that time,” she wrote in her article. her added that the separation was “a necessary step for both of us.”
“In addition, I must disclose that my former spouse has put me in circumstances where I had to get a temporary restraining order. I took this difficult and very personal decision just to keep myself safe during a vulnerable period.”
“He violated the restraining order and on the day I went to the police department to report the violation, he immediately contacted news outlets, further victimizing me,” the actress, who was born in Brazil, continued.
According to TMZ, Rider filed for divorce a few weeks before Cope completed the necessary paperwork to split from Lawrence. According to the documents obtained by the site, Rider found out that Alves and Lawrence were having an affair in March.
Reiterating that “this is a deeply private matter” that she had never wanted made public, Alves ended her statement with the intention of “putting an end to the speculation and allowing both Joey and myself to move forward without further intrusion.”
Cope recently hinted at letting go of negativity in a social media post of her own.
“Recently, a wonderful buddy of mine advised me to not be frightened of crying. Let them come naturally,” Cope posted on Instagram. “Because every tear is God gently squeezing the pain and devastation from your heart to make room for new beautiful feelings to come in.’”
With joyful footage of her and her daughter Dylan grinning and caressing a horse, the actress ended her video. A voice narrator for the poignant post remarked, “Look at you, look how far you’ve come.”
