Ex-Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has hailed Chelsea’s new signing Mykhailo Mudryk and insisted the Ukraine international has what it takes to succeed at Chelsea and be a top player.
Chelsea spent over £250 million in the January transfer window. The blues signed Enzo Fernandez, David Datro Fofana, Joao Felix, Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Malo Gusto, and Andrey Santos.
Mykhailo Mudryk was close to joining Chelsea London rival Arsenal before the blues snapped the highly-rated winger from Shakhtar Donetsk in a deal worth £89m for eight and half years. He made his debut as a substitute in Chelsea‘s 0-0 draw with Liverpool. It took a few minutes for the 22-year-old winger to show the World what he is made off.
What did Joe Cole say about Mykhailo Mudryk?
Former England and Chelsea midfielder said on BT Sport: “He’s going to be a top player for Chelsea. He looks like a fantastic final-third player who can beat a man, excite the crowd, and has great feet.
“He reminds me of Arjen Robben in the way he drives past players in short bursts and makes the right decisions in the final third. I think he’s going to get better and better, so Chelsea have got him at the right time.
“He just needs to settle. It’s a big jump coming from Ukraine to the Premier League so they’ll need to give him some time but I’m really excited about him once he learns to play under Potter.”
He added: “Graham Potter’s first job will be to get some kind of fluidity going and get players up to speed with what he wants and on board with what’s expected and what he’s trying to do.
“The players [who are on the bench] have got to be professional, and they’ll have known before they came that there’d be huge challenges to make the team.
“Those players will have to take a lot of responsibility [for their futures], and if they’re not happy, there will be the opportunity to leave.
“In the next two windows there’ll be a big shift of players leaving as well but Chelsea have a strong group – with Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, Reece James, Mason Mount – so they’ll make sure the principles remain and I think the squad can stay happy.”
Meanwhile, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has urged Chelsea to sign Harry Kane instead of making Joao Felix deal permanent.
He said on Casinos En Ligne: “Chelsea needs a striker. Harry Kane might not want to come, but Chelsea should try to persuade Harry Kane to join them.
“He might say no, but at least they would have tried.
“With Kane, he will guarantee you goals wherever he goes. There is still a chance that it might happen.
“If Tottenham aren’t in the Champions League and even if Chelsea aren’t in the Champions League – their chances are slimmer than Spurs of making the top four at this moment in time – but over the years to come, Chelsea has got a bigger chance of winning trophies and being in the Champions League, this is where Spurs have struggled.
“Kane has [18 months] left on his contract, so they won’t be in a position to ask for £100million, it will be less.
“Joao Felix is also not worth the reported £ 124 million fee Atletico Madrid are asking for at this moment in time.
“He might be getting there, I do rate him as a player, but he hasn’t played a lot of football, even for Atletico Madrid. That also means that they don’t rate him, so they can’t ask £124million for him.”
