The Portuguese international joined Chelsea during the January transfer window on a loan worth £11 million from Atletico Madrid. The loan deal will expire at the end of the season, and there is no indication if Chelsea will sign Joao Felix on a permanent deal from Atletico Madrid.
Joao Felix made his debut against Fulham in the Premier League. Still, his first game for the blues was cut short after receiving a straight red following a terrible tackle. The 23-year is expected to be in action at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea faces West Ham United.
Felix has hailed the immediate impact of Chelsea record signing Enzo Fernandez. He has defended his price tag, claiming signing a player for £100 million is now common in football.
What did Joao Felix say about Enzo Fernandez?
Asked how Enzo Fernandez has settled in at Chelsea, he told Spanish news outlet AS: “He’s a really good guy; he has entered the group very well.
“He arrived only two days before a game [against Fulham] but started playing straight away. He has been very good. He is a very good player.”
Reacting to the transfer fee Chelsea paid for the Argentine international, he added: “It is becoming more and more normal for amounts like this to be spent.
“Football has changed, and it will be common for amounts of £80m, £90m, £100m, and £110m to be paid.
“He deserves that valuation because he is a young player, he is very good and he still has a lot of room to evolve. He will surely become one of the best midfielders in Europe.”
There were reports that one of the reasons why Joao Felix left Atletico Madrid was the fallout with Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone. But the Portuguese international enjoys a great relationship with Chelsea manager Graham Potter.
On his relationship with Graham Potter, he said: “One of the first days he called me into his office. We talked about his idea of football and the ideas he thought of for me.
“He explained to me how the team plays, what they try to do. I really liked that he interacted with me and it shows that he is a really good person and a great coach.”
Joao Felix will play his first game for Chelsea since he was sent off against Fulham. Quizzed how it feels to be back on the field for Chelsea, he added: “Yes, I’ve been waiting for a month. The team has only played three games in a month, the ones I was suspended for, so on Saturday, I can play again.”
The Portuguese international and Enzo Fernandez were added to Chelsea 25 men’s squad for the knocking phase of the Champions League. The surprise omission was Chelsea’s summer signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the list. There are reports that Chelsea has agreed on a deal to loan Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Los Angeles FC.
