In Louisville, Byron performed on the radio on WGRC and WHAS. She was one of two winners of the Louisville regional Gateway to Hollywood competition in 1939, which allowed her to travel to Hollywood and participate at the program’s advanced level. On Kentucky Karnival, Byron sang on different days. The show began on August 30, 1943, at WGRC and was broadcast nationwide by the Mutual Broadcasting System.
After singing for Tommy Dorsey’s band, Byron then sang as a vocalist with Jan Savitt’s ensemble. She pursued a career with the Players Ring after studying acting from 1947 to 1950. In a play called Merrily We Roll Along, she caught the eye of Harry Sauber, Sam Katzman’s talent advisor.
Voodoo Tiger (1952) was Byron’s debut film.
