Career
The Phoenix Coyotes selected Leach in the fifth round (115th overall) in 2012. On September 26, 2003, he signed as a free agent with the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins after playing many years in minor hockey teams. During the 2005-06 season, he participated in his first two NHL games with the Bruins, recording no points and seven penalty minutes. Leach spent most of his tenure with the Bruins AHL affiliate in Providence.
The Tampa Bay Lightning signed him as a free agent on July 3, 2007. During the 2007-08 season, he appeared in two games with the Lightning but spent most of the time in the AHL. He was dealt to the Anaheim Ducks on February 26, 2008. He later signed with the New Jersey Devils during the summer of 2008. The Montreal Canadiens claimed Leach on re-entry waivers from the New Jersey Devils on November 6, 2009. Due to many injuries to Canadiens forwards on November 28, 2009, Leach went forward instead of his usual defensive position.
The San Jose Sharks claimed Leach off waivers on December 1, 2009, and he appeared in 28 games for the Sharks that season. On March 11, 2010, he scored his first NHL goal in an 8-5 win against the visiting Nashville Predators. He started the 2010-11 season with the AHL’s Worcester Sharks, but on February 9, 2011, he and Steven Zalewski were dealt back to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for Patrick Davis and Mike Swift.
