England National Team squad for their upcoming Nations League match against Italy and Germany was named on Thursday.
There was a shock omission from Gareth Southgate called up for their upcoming Nations League fixtures. Manchester United duo Jarden Sancho and Marcus Rashford were among the notable omissions from the squad.
Jarden Sancho and Marcus Rashford had found their form under the new Manchester United manager, Erik Ten Hag.
Sancho has scored three goals already in six games, but Gareth Southgate opted to pick Jack Gerlish and Bowen.
Reacting to the latest snub by Gareth Southgate, the Manchester United number 11 said on MUTV: “That [the World Cup] is one of the targets, but it is unfortunate that I didn’t get the call-up.
“But I have to keep focusing on myself and keep working hard, week in and week out. So that is what I am going to do.”
Meanwhile, Paul Scholes has admitted that Gareth Southgate should have picked Sancho over Jack Grealish.
The legendary midfielder said in CBS Sports: “Gareth [Southgate] has picked his players for a reason, possibly from previous squads.
“I think he deserves to be in over Jack Grealish at the minute. He scored a really good goal against Liverpool, showing really good signs tonight.
“He’s better when he’s coming inside the pitch when he’s linking with players.
“He doesn’t have that electrifying pace to go past someone down the outside or on the inside.
“When he was good at Dortmund, he had [Erling] Haaland to link with, [Achraf] Hakimi, he always had someone to link with.
“If he can do that with Manchester United, if he can find Fernandes and Eriksen, really clever players to link with, he could be a good player for United.”
Former Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves added: “I think they signed Jadon as a winger. They saw his performances for Dortmund, but actually he wants to come inside and link up with Bruno and Eriksen.
“Now, with Eriksen on the side, they have more possession, coming inside and linking. This is what he’s exceptionally good at. He wants to do it quickly.
“Jadon’s good in these areas, with Eriksen, Bruno, and Cristiano, there’s great options in those attacking areas. It was a really good goal, and it shows everything about Jadon Sancho.”
The selection of Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw has raised question marks as Manchester United had lost their position in Erik Ten Hag’s starting eleven to Tyrell Malacia and Raphael Varane.
