Arsenal threw away a two-goal lead over West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday at the London Stadium. The Gunners were two goals up in the first 10 minutes through Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard.
Arsenal could have scored more goals in the first 20 minutes but failed to utilize their chances.
The Hammers pulled one back through Said Benrahma from the Penalty spot in 33 minutes and Jarrod Bowen equalized for the home side in 54 minutes to give David Moye’s side a point from the League leaders. The result has cut Arsenal’s lead in the Premier League table to 4 points between him and second-place Manchester City. Manchester City has a game in hand.
Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher believes Aaron Ramsdale could have done something about Jarrod Bowne’s goals as the West Ham stat placed the ball where he was standing.
What did Jamie Carragher say?
The former defender told Skysports: “Gabriel (Magalhaes) just does not know Bowen is there.
“The ball was more in hope but Gabriel just leaves it. The goalkeeper (Ramsdale) who was fantastic last week, he has got to save that.”
Carragher further warned Arsenal that the only way they can win the Premier League is to Manchester City at the Etihad on Wednesday 26th April.
He added: “You just feel Arsenal are going to have to go to Manchester City and win now if they want to win the title.
Co-Pundits, Gary Neville, Roy Keane, and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink also expressed their view on Arsenal following their 2-2 draw.
Gary Neville said: “This title race always started at Anfield. Look at the fixtures.
“But they would have snapped your hand off to be in this position at the start of the season. Arsenal finishing second would still be an unbelievable season.”
Roy Keane added: “No chance. They’ve been top of the table all season. It would be a terrible season.
“They’re out of every cup competition. 2-0 up this week, 2-0 up today. It’s a huge disappointment.”
Chelsea icon Floyd Hasselbaink added: “I think when you are Man City and under pressure they perform, they get the job done.
“They can go the season and keep on winning. Arsenal still have to go to Newcastle too.
“You are not allowed to lose points today. This will hurt more than losing to Man City. The beginning of the season doesn’t matter. To lose is now would be a disaster.”
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was not happy with the side’s performance against West Ham after throwing always 2 goal lead.
He said: “Very disappointing.
“The way we started was superb again, we were in total control, then we have to blame ourselves as we lost purpose.
“We gave them hope, conceded a terrible penalty, then credit to them. They started to play direct and we could not control that situation.
“We got on the rollercoaster where everything is going, corners and throw-ins, and we never got away from that.
“The purpose we needed for third and fourth goal, I didn’t see it. We started to get sloppy, playing flicks, losing the ball, it broke our flow. Credit to West Ham, they put [us] in trouble.”
