Manchester United looks unplayable so far in their three pre-season-friendly games. The Red Devils look as sharp as ever since the arrival of Erik Ten Hag.
The Red Devils are yet to lose a game at pre-season, blowing all the teams that they had played a part. Erik Ten Hag’s side has scored 11 goals and conceded 2 goals in the last three matches. They defeated Liverpool 4-0 in the Asia Cup final, come back from a goal down to beat Melbourne Victory 4-1 and finally defeated Crystal Palace 3-1.
Manchester United finished fifth in the Premier League with a zero-goal difference after scoring and conceding 57 goals in the Premier League.
Despite their current run of form in their pre-season friendly against Erik Ten Hag, Jamie Carragher believes the Red Devils are miles always from the top-four.
What did Jamie Carragher say about Manchester United’s top-four chances?
In an interview with Skysports, The Liverpool Legend said: “I think there’s a long road Man United is on at the moment in terms of challenging for the title. I think the first thing for Erik ten Hag and the players they’re bringing in is we need to get back into the Champions League where it belongs and that’s where Manchester United should be.
“I think once United does that, it’ll then be to look at the title in the next couple of years, but it won’t be easy to get back into the top four this season. Not just United, but any team who are normally in the top four. You’d expect City and Liverpool to do it because they’re usually going for the title.
“You look at Chelsea and the signings they’re bringing in, Tottenham’s work as well, Arsenal as well. I think getting into the top four is really tough and it’s proven that for a lot of Manchester United managers who’ve had great CVs in the past.
But they’ve made a really good start in pre-season, [it will] be interesting if they can get [ Barcelona midfielder Frenkie] De Jong because I think he’s a top-class player who’d make a real difference for them.”
Manchester United will face Aston Villa on Saturday morning as part of warm-up games to prepare the team for next season’s Premier League and Europa League campaign.
Meanwhile, Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel claims Christian Eriksen will be a superstar at United.
Speaking via Tipsbladet, Peter Schmeichel said: “There are many questions to which we lack answers.
“Is Ronaldo playing? Is Frenkie de Jong coming? I think it is difficult to predict the team right now, but no matter what, Christian Eriksen gets the chance from the start in many matches. There he must prove himself like everyone else.
“It’s a great feeling to pull a United jersey over your head. He is chosen to represent the dreams of many people. I hope he will enjoy it.
“He’s good enough and he can handle it. Christian Eriksen will probably become a superstar at United if he delivers what he can.”
