Early Life
Jason Terrance Phillips, better known as Jadakiss, is a well-known American rapper born on May 27, 1975, in Yonkers, New York, under the zodiac sign of Gemini, of American nationality and black descent. We don’t have information about his parents, but he was known to be born to a New York couple. In his early life, Jadakiss was interested in hip-hop. At age 12, he began hustling by selling drugs after his parents asked him to earn his own money. Jadakiss decided to make money by freestyling after seeing people do it on the street. Freestyling led him to meet Sheek Louch and Styles P, who would become his longtime friends and collaborators.
Career
At 12, Jadakiss joined a Florida freestyle contest and was noticed by Ruff Ryders Entertainment. Together with Louch and Styles P, he founded the rap group The Warlocks. After meeting Mary J. Blige, she offered Puff Daddy the group’s demo. The Warlocks, who went by the stage name The Lox, were signed to Bad Boy Entertainment. The group contributed to the song “Set it Off” on The Main Source’s “Fuck What You Think” L.P. in 1994.
The Lox later collaborated with other Bad Boy artists to write and perform on several songs, including Mary J. Blige’s “Can’t Get You Off My Mind,” The Notorious B.I.G. “Last Day,” Puff Daddy’s “It’s All About the Benjamins,” and Mariah Carey’s “Honey.” When Puff Daddy’s “I’ll Be Missing You” single featured the Notorious B.I.G. tribute song “We’ll Always Love Big Poppa” as the B-side, The Lox scored their first hit. The Lox released “Money, Power & Respect,” their debut studio album, on January 13, 1998. The Platinum album peaked at number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and third on the “Billboard” 200 charts.
They signed with Ruff Ryders Entertainment after leaving Bad Boy Records. In 2000, they released the platinum-certified “We Are the Streets” album. Jadakiss’s debut solo album, “Kiss Tha Game Goodbye,” was released in August 2001. It was rated Gold and included the hits “Knock Yourself Out,” “We Gonna Make It,” and “Put Ya Hands Up.” His follow-up album, “Kiss of Death,” from 2004, likewise achieved Gold status and peaked at the top of the “Billboard” 200 charts, Top Rap Albums chart, and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The triumphant song “Why” (with Anthony Hamilton) sparked debate because of the 9/11 reference in the phrase “Why did Bush knock down the towers? “.
Two years after joining Jay-record Z’s label Roc-A-Fella Records in 2007, Jadakiss released the album “The Last Kiss,” which debuted at the top of the Top Rap Albums chart and the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. After quitting the label in 2010, he released the mixtape “Consignment” in 2012 and the L.P. “Top 5 Dead or Alive” in 2015. “Top 5 Dead or Alive” debuted at number one on both the Top Rap Albums and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums lists, just like his two prior albums. The Lox released “Filthy America…Beautiful” It’s in 2016, their first album since 2000, and the following year, Jadakiss and Fabolous collaborated on “Friday on Elm Street.” The Lox’s “Living Off Xperience” and Jadakiss’ sixth solo album, “Ignatius,” came out in 2020.
