According to local hospital, at least 22 children were killed in Gaza overnight Tuesday and early Wednesday in a punishing series of Israeli airstrikes on homes in northern Gaza.
The strikes killed at least 70 people in total, the Indonesian Hospital in Jabaliya reported. The strikes occured a day after Hamas released an Israeli-American hostage in a deal brokered by the United States, and as President Donald Trump was visiting Saudi Arabia.

On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there was “no way” Israel would halt its war in Gaza, dimming hopes for a ceasefire.

The Israeli military declined to comment on the strikes, but ordered residents of Jabaliya to leave late Tuesday night owing to Hamas infrastructure in the region, including rocket launchers.
In statements issued by Netanyahu’s office on Tuesday, the prime minister said Israeli forces were just days away from a planned escalation of force and would enter Gaza “with great strength to complete the mission… It means destroying Hamas.”

The Gaza conflict began in 2023, when Hamas-led militants killed 1,200 people in an incursion into southern Israel. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israel’s retaliatory operation has killed around 52,800 Palestinians, many of whom are women and children.
It remain unclear if the dead were militants or civilians. Israel’s attack has destroyed significant parts of Gaza’s urban landscape, displacing 90% of the people, often several times.
