With that said, take a look at the information below to learn more about the various sinusitis treatment methods.

Antibiotics

If your chronic sinusitis is coupled with a bacterial infection, you’ll need antibiotics. However, if your physician can’t determine a specific infection, they may prescribe other medications along with the antibiotic. In most cases, the prescriptions can clear the condition up.

Corticosteroids

Corticosteroids are administered either orally or through injections. They help to alleviate inflammation from severe cases of sinusitis. It’s especially helpful for individuals who also have nasal polyps.

Most of the time, patients receive injected corticosteroids. The reason being is because the oral version causes side effects when they’re taken for an extended period of time.

Therefore, oral cortical steroids are only prescribed to treat severe symptoms of the condition.

Aspirin Desensitization

Sometimes individuals have reactions to aspirin that cause sinusitis. In these cases, the patient is given large doses of aspirin in an attempt to increase their tolerance. This treatment method is only provided under close supervision.

Immunotherapy

Your sinusitis condition might be triggered by allergic reactions. If that’s the case, your doctor will put you through immunotherapy to minimize your body’s reaction to allergens.

This form of therapy is basically a round of allergy shots that can hopefully provide relief to your condition.

Saline Nasal Irrigation

In some cases of chronic sinusitis, the nasal passages are blocked according to this white paper. By performing nasal irrigation, it reduces drainage and washes away allergies and irritants.
If you have blocked sinuses, you’ll feel a great sense of relief after this treatment method.

Surgery

If you tried all of the methods above and nothing is working, then you may have to get surgery. For instance, you could have a deviated septum that’s causing the bulk of your issue.

If that’s the case, medications and traditional treatments aren’t going to work. During sinusitis surgery, the doctor will use a small, flexible tube that’s connected to a light to explore your sinus passages. Once they found the obstruction, they’ll use different tools to remove it.

Let’s say it’s a polyp. In that situation, they might shave it to get rid of it. Not only that, but the surgeon can also widen your nasal opening to provide better drainage.

If you’re thinking about getting surgery, you might want to consider the balloon sinuplasty procedure.

Cure Your Chronic Sinusitis

Most treatment methods work well for chronic sinusitis. However, speak to your doctor about surgery if traditional methods aren’t working. The cause of your condition might be more severe than you think.
