Microsoft is refreshing the product line with the introduction of the brand new Surface Laptop 4 about a year and a half after the launch of the Surface Laptop 3.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 is available in 13.5-inch and 15-inch models, similar to its predecessor, but customers will be able to choose between Intel’s 11th Gen processors and custom AMD Ryzen processors designed specifically for the Surface line.
Both processors should be faster and more efficient than the ones that came with the Surface Laptop 3 in 2019, but Microsoft promises a 70 percent boost in photo and video editing with Intel’s processors, thanks to the Iris Xe graphics, which can comfortably run GTAV, Overwatch, and Rocket League at 1080p.
In terms of battery life, Microsoft claims that the 13.5-inch model with AMD Ryzen can last up to 19 hours under typical conditions, which included opening eight popular websites in multiple tabs in a browser, running a productivity test with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, and using a number of idle applications. In the meantime, the 15-inch AMD model lasted 17.5 hours, but don’t expect the same results in real life.
The laptop’s design is nearly identical, including the ports. The Surface Laptop 4 has a single USB-A port, one USB-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a Surface Connect port for charging.
The Surface Laptop 4 comes in more configurations than ever before. The most affordable model costs $999.99 and comes with a 13.5-inch display, AMD Ryzen 5 4680U processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage.

The larger 15-inch model starts at $1,299.99 but includes an AMD Ryzen 7 4980U processor. The 13.5-inch model with an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage for $1,299.99 is the most affordable option if you choose Intel. Starting at $1,799.99, you can upgrade to a 15-inch model with an i7 processor and 16GB of RAM.
