The new mother left a note with her 2-day-old infant expressing her love for the child and her hopes and desires for her future.
The fire department in central Indiana is commending a mother for her selflessness after she left off her two-day-old newborn at the Safe Haven Baby Box.
At the Kokomo Fire Department station on West Superior Street on the 17th of July, a newborn girl was placed in the box, which triggered alarms and alerted the crew. At that time, the 2nd Platoon was the one that was sent to duty. Firefighter James Shaffer was the first person to arrive at the box and provide treatment for the infant until medical professionals from St. Vincent and Ascension could be sent.
A note from the mother, in which she expresses her love for her new daughter and her hopes and desires for her was forgotten.
“While we’ll never know the whole facts of your life that got you here, we’re glad you’re here to share them with us. On Facebook, the organization made a comment to the effect that it “appreciates your selfless choice to provide for your child.” We can’t even begin to understand what you’re going through, but please know that the love you’ve shown your daughter will leave an indelible mark on her life that will last forever.
