If you’re into body piercings and modifications then you’ve probably heard of saddle spreaders before. If you want to know more about this special kind of jewelry, then you’ll appreciate the information you’ll find in this article. Of course, you need to know first what it is. It’s actually a kind of earring made for stretched ear lobes. It’s a relatively new design and it’s meant to offer an additional fun option for people who are into extreme piercings.

You can wear them alone or you can use them together with dangling earrings or bigger hoop earrings. You can also clasp ear weights through them. What you need to know about saddle spreaders is that they are not only for aesthetic purposes. They actually have a practical use. They can help to prevent your ear from being damaged by wearing heavy hoops. This is because they help to distribute the weight of the hoops. They come in different sizes so you need to make sure that you get the size that matches the size of the hole in your ear lobe. Without support, wearing several hoops in your ear will surely hurt and will create some damage. So if you plan on wearing several ear hoops in your ear then you should definitely consider getting saddle spreaders. Your ears will thank you for it.

Now that you know what saddle spreaders are you probably want to know if they are the same as saddle plugs. It is known through historical accounts that humans have been wearing saddle plugs for many years already. A saddle is another name for a double-flared plug. This type of plugs flares at both ends and has a thinner middle portion. To keep saddle plugs in place, the fistula should be wide enough for the flare to fit in. But there is no need for o-rings anymore. So are saddle spreaders the same as saddle plugs. You can say that they are a type of saddle plugs.

You need to know that before you can put on saddle plugs of any kind, you need to wear tapers first. You need to leave the tapers in your ears for 3 to 4 months before you can wear an ear plug. You can’t wear ear plugs for more than a month at a time. You need to take a break before you move on to a bigger size. This process is called ear gauging. This is an important process because you don’t want to damage your ears. You need to stretch the hole slowly. Be sure that you’re guided by a professional when you do this process.

But can you stretch your ears without tapers? Yes, you can. There are three things you can do. First, you can make your ears bigger by wearing heavier plugs. Another thing you can do is to add larger jewelry to your ears. The last thing you can do is to add PTFE tape to whatever plug you’re currently using. You can also wear irregularly shaped plugs but only for a short time.
