Sources verified to ESPN that Barcelona has agreed with Manchester City to sign Ilkay Gundogan as a free agent on June 30.
According to sources, Gundogan, 32, has committed to a two-year deal with Barca with a third-year option, rejecting an offer to extend his seven-season stay at City and proposals from Premier League side Arsenal and Saudi Arabian clubs.
According to sources, the agreement is contingent on the results of a physical examination that Gundogan underwent on Wednesday.
Barcelona’s ongoing financial difficulties prompted them to explore the free agent market, and ESPN reported in March that the club was negotiating with the German international.
According to sources cited by ESPN, City was reticent to match Barca’s financial offer and would only extend a one-year contract with a second-year option.
Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie joined on free transfers last summer, and sources have told ESPN that defender Inigo Martinez will join Barca this month after his Athletic Club contract expires.
