How to Protect Products During Transit: Top Tips
SHARE

When shipping products, it’s essential that your goods are protected during transit. Otherwise, they can experience damage, which then leads to financial losses as well as unhappy customers and clients. None of this is ideal, so protecting your products during transit should be at the top of your agenda this year.

Luckily, you don’t need to spend lots of money to successfully protect your products while they’re out on the road. Instead, simply follow these low-cost tips that’ll do the job for you.

Use Pallet Wrap and Stretch Films

Firstly, you should use pallet wrap and stretch films from Orbital Packaging. This will allow you to deliver products to clients and customers in the exact same condition that they left your warehouse — pristine. The way it works is that you put the stretch films around your products so they’re extra secure and safe from outside interference, such as dust or spillages. As a result, you don’t have to worry about losing out on money due to your products getting damaged in transit.

Insert Air Pillows

Air pillows are also highly effective when it comes to protecting products during transit. They’re made from protective films and filled with air, which then makes them incredibly soft and protective (hence the name “air pillows”).

It’s highly recommended that you use air pillows when you’re shipping ultra-sensitive products, such as wine bottles. In the worst-case scenario, such as a crash on the road, there’s still a good chance that your products will make it out undamaged because of the simple fact that they’re surrounded with air pillows. They’ve saved companies millions of dollars over the years, so definitely use them to your advantage.

Make Sure the Box Size is Correct

Box size is incredibly important when you’re shipping products. If boxes are too small, it can lead to products becoming cramped and damaged. Similarly, if boxes are too large, it allows more space for the products to move around and break while in transit.

Therefore, make sure you’re not just choosing random boxes for your products. Instead, be specific and choose boxes that are best suited to your products and their different sizes.

Label Products

All your products should be labeled when they get shipped. This way, it allows them to be handled properly without being misplaced. Naturally, the risk involved with this is that some products might get mislabeled, which then leads to all kinds of confusion. To avoid this happening, employees should be trained to do a strict screening process where all product labeling is double-checked before products are shipped. As a result, the nightmare scenario of misplaced (or entirely lost) products won’t become a reality.

Provide High-Quality Driver Training

All drivers working for your company should be provided with high-quality training. When they’re out on the road, it’s easy for employees to avoid safe driving practices and get into accidents. Accidents usually mean damaged products, which then leads to financial losses. This isn’t ideal, which is why you can reduce the chances of it happening by providing drivers with high-quality training.

Also, before hiring drivers, you should check that they have plenty of experience in the industry. Hiring new drivers is risky, as they’re inexperienced and might not yet be ready to transport valuable and fragile goods.
