Living in a hot climate is a way of life many people dream of – especially when it is damp and cold outside. However, although it means you can tan all year round and never sit shivering at night, burning through your central heating budget, it can be uncomfortable.

Anyone who has endured a night trying to sleep in a hot, stuffy room on holiday with no air conditioning can attest to the problems of living in a hot climate. It can actually pose just as many issues as living in a cold one – if not more – so it is vital that you understand how to cope with it if necessary.

Instead of simply taking the pain, you should actively improve your home to cope with the hot weather better.

On the affordable end of the spectrum, for example, you could paint the house a lighter color, which deflects light and keeps the property cool. It may also reduce the chances of the paint peeling, which can often happen in hot countries.

However, this is just the tip of the iceberg because there are many practical solutions available.

Here are a few of them:

Fit an air conditioning system

Arguably the best action you can take if you live in a hot country is to fit a strong and reliable air conditioning system. Having an HVAC unit in your bedrooms and any living areas that get particularly hot will transform the liveability of your home.

You will no longer have to endure the pain of hot and humid nights spent in bed trying to get to sleep or sweating buckets while you attempt to cook in the kitchen.

Of course, when choosing an air conditioning system, it is vital that you measure the room you want to fit it in to ensure you buy the right sized unit with sufficient power to moderate the room temperature.

To help with this, reach out to a local HVAC specialist like Kaiser Air Conditioning Oxnard.

Consider solar panels

Another great addition to your house if you live in a hot climate is solar panels. Although this option doesn’t change how hot or comfortable your house is, it can transform your living standards over time.

When you have so much sun all year round, it is the perfect opportunity to profit from it.

Solar panels might be pricy, but they will pay themselves off quickly when you live in a hot climate. Once they are paid off, you may even be able to replace your reliance on the national grid with solar power entirely.

This drops your energy bills to zero and makes you far more self-reliant.

In some places, you can even sell excess energy to neighbors or the national grid, which is an added bonus.

Build a conservatory or garden room

When you live in a hot climate, you will want to make the most of the glorious weather.

This is why building a conservatory or garden room is compelling. It gives you heat and light from outside without exposure to the elements.

A conservatory is especially desirable if it backs onto your garden because you can admire the view without stepping outside.
