As an international student, you may be eligible for scholarships and awards based on your academic achievements when you apply for admission. It’s important to note that some scholarships may have earlier deadlines or require a separate application, so check for any additional requirements. Other options for funding your education include external scholarships, loans, bursaries, or work opportunities.

Apply for immigration documents.

If you are an international student planning to study in Canada, obtaining a valid study permit is necessary. Additionally, depending on your country of citizenship, you may need to acquire a temporary resident visa or an electronic travel authorization (eTA). You should apply for these documents as soon as possible after receiving your offer of admission from USask. You must also renew or extend your study permit to continue studying beyond its expiration date.

Prepare for your arrival and orientation.

Before coming to Canada, you should ensure you have all the necessary documents, such as your passport, immigration documents, health insurance, travel tickets, and accommodation arrangements. It would be best to familiarize yourself with Canadian culture, climate, and customs. Once you arrive in Saskatoon, you should attend the orientation sessions and events organized by the International Student and Study Abroad Center, which will help you settle in and connect with other students.

FAQs

How do I apply for admission?

Looking to apply to Usask? You’ll need to create an admissions account at apply.usask.ca and complete an online application. Remember that there’s a non-refundable application fee of CAD 90; you must submit any required documents or tests.

What are the admission requirements and deadlines?

The admission requirements and deadlines vary depending on the program you are interested in, when you want to start classes, and whether this is your first time attending university. The admission requirements include required courses, minimum admission averages, and proficiency in English. You can find each program’s specific needs and deadlines on the Find a Program page or the Requirements and Deadlines page.

How is my university academic average (UAA) calculated?

The UAA is calculated based on the best 60 credit units (or equivalent) of university-level courses completed within the last five years of study. The UAA is expressed as a percentage and rounded to two decimal places. Courses with letter grades are converted to rates using the Conversion Scale. Repeated distance education and summer courses are counted if they fall within the best 60-credit units. Please see the UAA Calculation section in the Applicant Information Document for more information.

Do I need to take a full course load?

We highly recommend applicants take a complete course load of 30 credit units for at least one year during the last three years of their studies. This demonstrates their capability to handle the challenges of the medical program effectively. However, it is not compulsory for admission. If applicants have taken less than a full course load, they may be required to clarify their course load choices.

Do I need to take any prerequisite courses?

No high school or university-level prerequisite courses are required for the 2022 application cycle. However, beginning in the 2024 application cycle, applicants must have an Indigenous studies prerequisite. This can be fulfilled by completing a three-credit unit course in Indigenous studies at any post-secondary institution or a self-directed online module offered by Usask.
