It is utterly normal to feel the need to improve yourself – whether this improvement may be sought out personally, professionally, or spiritually, all forms of improvement are welcome, and are essential to increase your place in society and to ultimately make you a better person. By simply taking out 10 minutes every day to ponder upon yourself, and by building kindness and compassion in your heart, you can better yourself tremendously as the 10 minutes of self-realization will truly help you think yourself through.
Here’s a look at some of the things you can do to lead yourself to self-improvement and to better your daily routine:
1. Build a sense of gratitude
A gratitude journal, while being super commercialized and popular in the previous decade, genuinely helps an individual be in touch with themselves and with the world around them. Being thankful has a very positive effect on one’s mindset, and you will truly witness a difference in the way you carry yourself just in a matter of weeks. It helps individuals do away with any negative thoughts, affects their relationships in a positive manner, and lays off stress.
2. Engage in self-care
Self-care includes any activity that truly brings you a sense of purpose and peace of mind. For many individuals, spending time at the spa, doing retail therapy, and having a cheat meal constitutes self-care. Whatever your definition of self-care may be, you need to make sure that you don’t engage in materialistic behavior in the process. Eating right and taking care of your body also constitute self-care.
3. Travel more often
Wanderlust truly transforms an individual’s personality – they become more thankful towards nature and humbled in their behavior. You don’t necessarily have to travel to popular tourist destinations to be a better person – rather, you need to do the opposite. Travel to quiet and quaint places that truly allow you to soak in the beauty and culture of a different place. Not only would you experience something new, but you’d also open yourself up to an avenue of different cultures.
4. Learn a new language
Learning a new language constitutes much more than being able to call yourself bilingual. Rather, learning a new language opens up your mind and body to a whole another culture. Learning a new language, while seems cliché, truly helps you build yourself spiritually. In order to learn a new language you need not limit yourself to a library with books and paper – this isn’t recommended at all. Rather, you should converse with natives with aids such as a language device by your side, and slowly and steadily build up your proficiency.
5. Engage in a digital detox
The infusion of technology into our everyday lives can be a little alarming. Individuals should try a digital detox every now and then, and step away from their phones every once in a while. If you find some free time on your hands, rather than scrolling through Instagram, you need to leave your phone home and step out for a refreshing walk.
