MacGibbon was married at least twice: first to Philadelphia producer William Reno Kane in September 1930, from whom she separated in April 1942, and then to writer Charles Corwin White. They stayed married until Christmas Day, 1967, when White passed away. William McKibbon Kane, her son from her first marriage, was her only child.

Aged 81, MacGibbon passed away. Her remains were cremated, and her ashes were placed in niche 61046 of the Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Hollywood Hills), Los Angeles, California, Columbarium of Remembrance.
