Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes Everton and Brazilian international Richarlison will be an ideal signing for Chelsea.
Richarlison joined Everton for £35 million from Watford. The Brazilian international is a versatile attacker that can play on both wings and also as a false nine. The 25 years old has emerged as one of the top prospects in the summer transfer.
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs are among the teams seeking to sign the Everton star.
Tottenham Hotspurs has been busy in the transfer window signing Ivan Perisic from Inter Millan and has signed Fraser Forster from Southampton to deputize club captain Hugo loris.
Tottenham Hotspurs have also agreed on a £25 million deal for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma.
Thomas Tuchel will also want to strengthen his attacking side for next season with the likes of Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudgson-Odoi, and Hakim Ziyech are expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. Mikel Arteta is also monitoring the situation of Richarlison.
Richarlison was impressive this season helping Everton avoid relegation in the Premier League. The 25 years old Brazilian international scored 10 goals and provided 5 assists in 30 Premier League appearances for Everton last season.
The Brazilian earlier this month when asked about his future at Everton said: “I’ve already made it clear to the board.
“I’ve already talked to Frank Lampard too, with my agents and they know what I want. Let’s wait for June.
“Now I can’t talk, because when we talk about leaving a club I’m kind of like this, because of the history I have at Everton, the affection that the fans have for me. When we talk about leaving I’m a little speechless.”
What did Glen Johnson say about Chelsea’s interest in Richarlison?
Speaking via BettingOdds.com, The former Liverpool defender said: “I certainly believe he would suit the way Chelsea play more than Romelu Lukaku.
“Whether he’s good enough to be their main man and get 20 goals a season, then I’m not so sure.
“I do like him though and I think he’s a good player and it could be a sensible move if the fee is reasonable.”
The versatility of Richarlison will be a good attacking option for Chelsea next season. Chelsea lacks the type of hard-core attacker who is not afraid to wrestle with a defender for the ball in the opponent’s half.
Meanwhile, Chelsea is reported to have enquired about the transfer fees of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.
The England international is ready to move to Chelsea provided he is assured of regular playing time. Chelsea may not be the only club that wants to sign Sterling this summer. Arsenal and Real Madrid are also reported to be monitoring the situation of Raheem Sterling at Manchester City with the arrival of Erling Haaland.
