What did Gundogan say?
Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s game, Ilkay Gundogan said:” Well, tomorrow, we will go down on our knees together with the English because we want to support this whole initiative.
“We did this last year at the Euro and, of course, we will do it tomorrow too.
“I’m used to that from the English league, where we do it almost every match so it’s nothing new for me.
“We talked about it inside the team and we will support the opponent.”
Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate has admitted that he wanted Jamal Musiala to play for the England National Team.
Jamal Musiala was in Stuttgart Germany but moved to England with his parents when he was seven years old. Musiala has represented England at the various youth levels but decided to play for Germany last year.
However, Gareth Southgate has claimed that He was keen to convince the Bayern Munich midfielder to play for the three lions but it was difficult.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Tuesday’s game, He said:’We’d have liked him to stay with England for certain.
“But when you’re training at Bayern Munich every day and you’re surrounded by Bayern Munich and German players, then that’s a little bit more challenging and of course, his family has those strong ties.
“We enjoyed working with him when he was in our junior teams. He was a nice boy to work with. We knew he was going to be, and he is, a good player.
“So yes we would have liked him for sure but we’ve got lots of these situations now in England – I’m sure Germany has got the same – where players can play for several different countries and sometimes your heart is going to take you somewhere else. We have complete respect for that.
“It’s nice to see him doing well, having met him first off when he was about 13 or 14. So I’m pleased for him that that’s working well. Tomorrow I don’t care less, but generally, I’m pleased to see him doing well.”
