Chelsea are currently experiencing a round of poor form in the Premier League. The blues has won only two games in their last 13 games. They are now 9th in the League and could move to 10th if Liverpool beats Everton on Monday in The Merseyside derby.
The blues have also struggled recently in front of goal. Chelsea forwards needs help to convert their chances. This was evident in their 1-1 draw against West Ham United on Saturday. German international Kai Havertz has been leading the line for Graham Potter’s side after their summer signing, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has been out of form.
Kai Havertz has scored six goals in 29 appearances for Chelsea this season. This season, the German lack of goals has also contributed to Chelsea’s poor form.
Former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor believes Chelsea did a natural striker like Harry Kane and Erling Haaland in their team as they needed more than Kai Havertz.
What did Gabby Agbonlahor say?
Ex- Aston Villa striker said on TalkSports: “[Chelsea are] missing a ruthless striker.
“Put Harry Kane in that team, put Haaland in that team, and imagine the chances they’d score.
“Havertz, for me, is lightweight. He’s a big lad but gets bullied on the ball. He’s not an out-and-out number nine and is more a number 10.
“But] they’ve got [Cristopher] Nkunku coming in the summer.”
Meanwhile, former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has revealed that his former side should sign Ivan Toney as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s replacement.
The England international has scored 14 goals in 20 Premier League appearances for Brentford this season.
He told The Times: “Chelsea are so close to getting it right under Graham Potter.
“Their performance away to West Ham – particularly in the first 20 minutes – was much improved, but they are still crying out for a striker. Ivan Toney could be the missing piece of the jigsaw.
“With runners off him such as Mykhailo Mudryk and Joao Felix and quality deliveries into the box, the Brentford forward would thrive at Chelsea.
“He is so strong in the air, loves to get in behind, and has the confidence and swagger to succeed at a top club.
“The problem for potential suitors is the threat of a lengthy ban after being charged with more than 200 alleged breaches of betting rules.
“Should he be cleared or have served his punishment by the end of the season, I would expect him to command a huge transfer fee.”
Chelsea were reported to have agreed to loan Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to MLS club Los Angeles FC till the end of the season. The blues are also monitoring Napoli and Nigerian striker Victor Oshimen. The Nigerian international is expected t leave the Italian side during the summer.
It was reported last week that Chelsea wants to include Romelu Lukaku in their bid to sign Victor Oshimen from Napoli.
