Following a disagreement over an allegedly stolen vehicle, there was a “shootout” on a busy interstate in Birmingham, Alabama, on Friday that left four people injured, according to authorities.
At approximately 4:40 p.m. on Friday, according to Birmingham police, officers were called to “multiple calls of a shootout taking place” on I-59 South, close to the 20th Street Ensley exit in the western section of the city.
Just before the Bush Boulevard exit, two automobiles had been shot into, according to the officers on the scene.
“We think that someone noticed what might have been their stolen car and started to follow it. Purportedly, this car was stolen in a nearby city, according to BPD Public Information Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald stated that the group “took it upon themselves” to confront the alleged robbers and that a “shootout” ensued, injuring four individuals.
Fitzgerald stated that two people were hit by gunshots and suffered life-threatening injuries. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service took them both to the hospital.

Fitzgerald stated that two other people with non-life-threatening injuries arrived at UAB Hospital in Birmingham via private vehicle.
During the argument, no innocent bystanders were hit by gunshots, according to police.
