Monday saw the passing of former Maryland House Speaker Casper Taylor. He was 88.
Governor Wes Moore stated that Taylor’s work as a prominent state legislator “will have repercussions for generations to come.”
Moore said in a statement, “Speaker Taylor served Maryland with distinction for nearly three decades as a member of the House of Delegates and one of the state’s longest-serving Speakers of the House.” “We are so grateful for his years of public service, and we celebrate his many accomplishments, from which Marylanders benefit greatly every day.”
Taylor, a western Maryland Democrat, represented an Allegany County district.
He served as speaker of the House of Delegates from 1994 to 2003. He was a member of the House of Delegates from 1975 to 2003. He was a Cumberland, Maryland native.
