On Tuesday, police in central Florida claimed that an 11-year-old boy shot two 13-year-old boys following an argument during a Pop Warner football practice.
During a news conference on Tuesday, Apopka Police Chief Mike McKinley revealed that a juvenile fired a single shot at two teens on Monday night, injuring one in the arm and the other in the belly. Both teens were fleeing the youngster at the time of the gunshot, according to CCTV evidence.
According to McKinley, the two teenagers’ situations are stable.
McKinley said officers were on the scene four minutes after the incident was reported at 8:18 p.m.
McKinley stated that responding officers retrieved the boy’s handgun and arrested him. The boy was charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder after being placed in a juvenile assessment center. According to the chief, the boy’s mother might be charged with a second-degree misdemeanor for keeping a handgun in an unlocked location.
As a civilization, we must consider this. This, according to McKinley, was a regular occurrence. That is unfortunate. Nobody wants to see a pre-adolescent child arrested.
McKinley stated that any additional charges will be resolved by the courts.
We hope that the 11-year-old receives the assistance he needs to keep this from becoming a permanent condition of things in his life. He’s just eleven years old, but McKinley promises him a bright future. I have no doubt in my mind that he can mend things. Our legal system should be able to bring him to a point where picking up a gun is not his first inclination, through diversion programs, counseling, and other ways.
The nature of the dispute was not revealed by McKinley. An investigation is now underway.
He claimed that numerous adults and children were present for the session, and that more were at a nearby soccer practice. There were no more victims.
Apopka is located roughly 32 kilometers (nearly 20 miles) northwest of Orlando, Florida.
