Sheila Keen-Warren, 61, has insisted on her innocence in the 1990 murder case despite accepting a plea deal. The Florida woman who entered a guilty plea to the second-degree murder of Marlene Warren while wearing a clown costume and delivering balloons and carnations was released from prison on Saturday, just 18 months after she was found guilty of shooting Marlene to death in Wellington, Florida, more than 30 years prior. In 2023, she was sentenced to 12 years in prison, with credit for the more than 2,000 days she had already served in jail.
She has insisted on her innocence in spite of her plea agreement.
Greg Rosenfeld, Kenn-Warren’s attorney, told the Associated Press, “We are absolutely thrilled that Ms. Keen-Warren has been released from prison and is returning to her family.” “As we’ve stated from the beginning, she did not commit this crime.”
Although she had been suspected from the start of the case, prosecutors found it difficult to accuse her due to the investigators’ lack of evidence. They were able to link her to the crime site in 2014 thanks to retested DNA evidence.
Joseph Ahrens, the victim’s son, and his friends were at home when the shooting occurred, and they say a clown-clad individual brought the balloons and flowers before shooting Marlene in the face.
Keen-Warren later married Michael Warren, her employer and the spouse of her victim.
Although they both denied it, witnesses thought the two were having an affair when Marlene was killed.
Despite being a suspect at first, Michael was never found guilty.
