The Vatican has released the first photo of Pope Francis lying in repose inside a wooden casket, dressed in red vestments and his bishop’s miter, with the Vatican secretary of state, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, praying over him.
The moment took place in the chapel of the Domus Santa Marta, the residence where Francis lived.

According to an annoucement made by the Holy See Press Office on Tuesday, Pope Francis’ funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM in St. Peter’s Square.
The body of the late Pope will then be taken into St. Peter’s Basilica and then to the Basilica of St. Mary Major for entombment.
