Pennsylvania Democrat senate candidate John Fetterman spent most of his Monday night campaigning with three councilmembers from West Philadelphia who have shown support for measures to defund police forces.
Fetterman, who called the council members “excellent,” posted a photo of himself grinning beside Jamie Gauthier, the councilmember for District 3, and Kendra Brooks and Isaiah Thomas, the councilmembers at large, on one of his social media sites.
To support local Black-owned companies, Fetterman tweeted, “Three excellent Councilmembers that are with me in my battle to turn out every vote here in Philly.”
Thomas has called defunding or reducing funding to police forces his “concept of change,” and the other two councilmembers have made it apparent that they share this view in the wake of worldwide demonstrations and rioting in 2020 in response to the police-involved murder of George Floyd.
