During a Phillies vs. Marlins game on September 5th, a young dad named Drew Feltwell managed to catch a home run ball, which he intended to give as a birthday gift for his son, Lincoln.
After Harrison Bader of the Marlins hit the solo home run, the ball landed near Drew’s seat. He was the first to grab it, and he handed it straight to his son.
But an unexpected incident happened. A woman seated behind Drew suddenly confronted him, claiming the ball belonged to her, even though Drew was the first to reach it.
Mr. Feltwell, explaining the incident, told NBC10 Philadelphia, “I pretty much just wanted her to go away.
“She was in the seat behind; I don’t know if she was standing up. Maybe? But I was watching the ball from almost the bat to where it went into that seat and kind of jumbled around, and I was already going in, and coincidentally, as soon as I was going in, it stopped in one spot, and I just picked it up.”
“I jumped out of my skin, and I was like, you know, like ‘Why are you here?’ you know, ‘Go away.’ And she’s like, ‘That’s my ball! You stole out of – those are from our seats.’ And I said, ‘There was nobody in that seat,’ you know. She said, ‘That’s from where we were sitting,’ and she just went on and on.”
Narrating the incident, Mr. Feltwell said he had two choices: respond to the woman and do something he would regret later, or be a good father to his son.
He explained: “How to de-escalate the situation.
“We were there to get a home run ball. I thought I had accomplished this great thing, and putting [it] in his glove meant a lot, and she was just so adamant and loud and yelling and persistent, and I just didn’t want to deal with it anymore.”

The Miami Marlins later stepped in to make things right. They apologized to Lincoln and gave him a bag filled with gifts. Lincoln even got to meet Bader and received a signed bat to replace the home run ball.
