Officials announced on Saturday that a hiker in Washington State was recovered alive after falling more than 1,200 feet into a gully on Mt. Ellinor in the Olympic National Forest.
The 30-year-old guy was approaching the top of the mountain with his hiking buddy when he went down the ravine, according to a statement issued by Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NAS) on Monday. After being unable to locate or contact his trekking companion, he requested assistance.
Around 6:20 p.m., NAS sent a search and rescue squad and met Mason County responders on the mountain.
After teams discovered no evidence of the missing hiker at the mountain’s summit, they began searching at the foot of a major avalanche runout about 1,000 feet down the slope from the summit, according to NAS.
