Former Manchester United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen has revealed that Ten Hag should learn how Thomas Tuchel transitioned from Ligue 1 to the Premier League if he wants to be successful in the Premier League.
Thomas Tuchel was able to guide Chelsea to their second Champions Success and also play in the final of the FA Cup all in the first six months of his tenure as Chelsea Manager.
Manchester United confirmed the appointment of the Dutchman on Thursday through the Clubs Website.
The 52 years old became the seventh manager to be appointed the manager of the Red Devils since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
However, Rene Meulensteen believes that the quality of football and players in the Premier League makes it different from the Eredivisie.
What was said?
‘Over at Ajax with the style that he plays, it’s expansive, it’s open, it’s attacking,’ Meulensteen explained. ‘If he goes to any team from place 10 downwards, he can turn up with Ajax and basically win 60 to 70 percent of those games. You would never be able to do that in the Premier League.
‘Any top-four team in the Premier League that goes to a bottom-four team in the Premier League still has to fight very hard for points. He has to hit the ground running.’
The former Fulham manager has urged Erik Ten Hag to copy what Thomas Tuchel did has done at Chelsea.
‘You can compare that with Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea,’ the Australia assistant manager said. ‘He has never worked over here in the Premier League, but he came over here and did his homework. You could see that straight away and his impact was immediate with Chelsea. Erik needs to do that.’
Former Republic of Ireland and Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has also urged Erik Ten Hag to consider Zaha, Harry Kane, Kalvin Philipps, Yves Bissouma, and Lisandro Martinez as possible United signings for this summer.
Speaking to the Times he said:‘Erik ten Hag should focus on bringing in players who are already proven this summer, rather than obsessing over potential. before identifying Zaha, Harry Kane, Kalvin Philipps, Yves Bissouma, and Lisandro Martinez as possible United signings for this summer.
‘The best example of that is Harry Kane – a striker who would be a typical United signing.
‘Signing Kane depends on whether Tottenham Hotspur fails to make the top four, but United should at least try for the England captain.
‘With Erling Haaland seemingly set for Manchester City, Kane’s options if he wants to leave Tottenham are limited.
‘Kane could provide the kind of lift that Robin van Persie did when he moved to United from Arsenal in 2012 and helped them win the Premier League in Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge.
‘Other proven top-flight players I would target are Kalvin Phillips at Leeds United and Yves Bissouma at Brighton, either of whom could slot into United’s midfield.
‘Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha would also be a clever signing for United.
‘I know it didn’t go according to plan for him during his first spell at Old Trafford but he has matured since leaving and has been playing at a high level for years now – he could provide competition to Jadon Sancho and shouldn’t have any problems with Ten Hag’s system as the Dutchman trusts his wingers.
‘Ten Hag may also look at poaching Lisandro Martinez from Ajax. The Argentina defender is composed on the ball and has been an ever-present for Ten Hag’s Ajax side this season.’
Ten Hag joins Manchester United having won two Eredivisie titles with Ajax, while the club is on course for another title triumph this season.
