José Francisco Lafuente, a Spanish biochemist, and Cristina Medianu Pataky, a Romanian publicist, welcomed Elsa Lafuente Medianu into the world on July 18, 1976, in Marid, Spain. Pataky joined the Teatro Cámara de Ángel Gutiérrez stage group in Madrid. After being cast in the TV series Al Salir de Clase, she left school. Her future films were UK-France co-productions, which introduced her to English and French. In the 2000 TV series Queen of Swords, she played Señora Vera Hidalgo, the trophy wife of Gaspar Hidalgo and mistress of Captain Grisham, appearing in only 14 of 22 episodes.
