According to the tech mogul Elon Musk, the two-party system is broken. He just launched a new political party to prove it.
Elon Musk announced on his social media platform, X, on Saturday the formation of his “America Party.” He called it a direct response to what he described as a corrupt political establishment that no longer represents the American people.
The announcement came after a viral July 4 poll, where he asked whether voters wanted independence from what he called the “two-party (some would say uniparty) system.”
The poll received over 1.2 million votes, with 65.4% saying “yes.”
On Saturday, July 5, 2025, Musk posted, “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party, and you shall have it.” “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
The move was taken shortly after the “big, beautiful bill” was signed into law by President Donald Trump at the White House on Friday.
According to Musk’s posts, the new party will target a few key seats in Congress. The aim is to create a swing bloc powerful enough to hold the balance of power and block what Musk sees as the worst excesses of both Republicans and Democrats.
In the comments area, some conservatives expressed worry that a third party may divide the conservative vote and make it easier for Democrats to win.
Conservative commentator Shawn Farash posted, “Your third party will disproportionately take votes from the right vs. the left and give the left an easier path to power.”
Critics also argued that the X poll was informal, not confined to American voters, and open to bots.
