  • Early Life

He was born on August 12, 1989, in Lancaster, California, in the United States of America. He was born under the sign of Leo, with American nationality and black ethnicity. He is the son of Gail Lewis and Thomas Dedmon. He is the brother of Sabrina Dedmon and Marina Dedmon. He attended and graduated from Lancaster High School after gaining his primary education at a local school in his neighborhood. After high school, he went to Antelope Valley College, and then he went to the University of Southern California. He was on the school’s basketball team in high school.

    High school and college career

At Lancaster High School and Antelope Valley College

Lancaster High School in Lancaster, California, was where Dedmon studied. Dedmon waited until his final year to participate in high school basketball because his mother had religious reservations about it. Dedmon, who was already 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m) tall at 18, decided to exercise his right to play once he reached the age of majority. Dedmon did not play basketball in the 2008–09 season since he transferred to Antelope Valley College as a part–time student after earning his diploma from Lancaster in 2008. Dedmon guided the Marauders to a 17-14 record as a freshman in 2009–10 while averaging 6.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while standing at 7 ft 0 in (2.13 m) tall for Antelope Valley. On January 22, 2010, against Chaffey College, he also had 46 blocks, equaling the school record with seven blocks. A careless elbow hit him five days later while leaning against Victor Valley. This broke a bone in his forehead and hurt his nose. Dedmon missed the last seven regular-season games due to an injury. Still, he made a comeback for the playoffs when he had a game-high 5 points and 13 rebounds in a victory against Miramar College on February 24.

    University of Southern California

Dedmon joined the University of Southern California on April 14, 2010, and according to NCAA transfer rules, he redshirted the 2010–11 season. To stay eligible for three full seasons, he didn’t play for the Marauders, but he did finish his last semester at Antelope Valley. When he moved from Antelope Valley to USC in the second semester of 2010–11, he started working out with the Trojans. He had the highest shooting percentage on the squad (.551) and made at least 50% of his shots in 14 out of his 20 starts. On January 19, 2012, he scored a season-high 18 points against Oregon. On January 21, he had eight points and eight rebounds in a loss to Oregon State.

Dedmon led the Trojans in 2012–13 as a junior at USC, leading the team with 7.0 rebounds and 6.7 points over 31 games (29 starts). On March 6, he equaled his previous career best with 18 points against Washington. But on March 12, he was suspended indefinitely because of rumors of a fight between USC players and people from the neighborhood at a bar in downtown Spokane on a Saturday night.

Two days after the sanctions were issued, USC fell 69-66 to Utah in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament without Dedmon and banned senior center James Blasczyk. Dedmon also concluded the season ranked seventh in school history with 85 career blocks, placing him second in the Pac-12 and sixth all-time in single-season blocks for USC. Dedmon wrote on April 24 that he wanted to be picked in the 2013 NBA Draft. It was before his last year of college eligibility.

Following the October FIFA International break, all sixteen PSL teams will be back in action from this Friday as they face each other in the 2019 Telkom Knockout. Kaizer Chiefs were drawn against tough opponents Cape Town City in the last 16 of this league competition. The match will take place away from home in Cape Town on Saturday, 19 October. “We are looking forward to going back to Cape Town to face Cape Town City. They are a strong side, but we managed to beat them last month in their backyard,” says Chiefs No 6, Kearyn Baccus. Baccus scored his first goal for Chiefs in an Absa Premiership match played at Newlands Stadium. His goal came in the 83rd minute of the game and sealed the three points when Chiefs beat the Citizens 2-1. “I’m relishing the prospect of playing my first cup game in South Africa,” adds Baccus. We would like to win everything on offer this season. We will work hard to achieve this dream.” Another goal scorer in that match against City on 27 August, Daniel Cardoso, says he loves playing in Cape Town because he’s scored a few goals in the Mother City. His goal was in August, an equaliser in the 76th minute after the home team took the lead early in the first half. The defender says he is looking forward to meeting Benni McCarthy’s team and proceeding to the last 8 of the Telkom Knockout competition. Chiefs have won the Telkom Knockout competition a record 13 times. The last win came in 2010 and reached the final 2015. Both Baccus and Cardoso believe that the support the team received at Newlands Stadium in August will be vital when they take to the field on Saturday. “The 12th man is key for any team and we trust that the supporters will purchase their tickets early and get behind us,” adds Cardoso. The medical team has confirmed that a number of players who were out with injury are expected to be available for selection for Saturday’s match. They include George Maluleka, Samir Nurković, Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and Reeve Frosler. Tickets for the match are available from Ticketpro outlets including Edgars, CNA, Jet stores and Spar Supermarkets at a cost of R60 per tickets. The match will kick off at 15:00 at the Cape Town Stadium.
