ISO stands for the International Standard of Organization. It is one of the accepted methods for measuring the antiviral activities on the plastics, which can be antiviral treated products against viruses. What are the features of the ISO 21702 test method?

The features of the ISO 21702 test methods are given by,

  • ISO 21702 is a surface test commonly used for viruses that can be substituted according to customer requirements.
  • The ISO 21702 test method is designed to test the capabilities of plastics and other materials. Similar to the disinfection of viruses in contact with surfaces of treated materials, ISO 21702 is performed during 24 hours of contact with the virus.
  • ISO 21702 is one of the most requested antiviral surface test methods for evaluating the antimicrobial activity of plastic and non-porous products treated with viruses.
  • Antimicrobial plastics may meet the requirements of ISO 21702, however, when conditioned in a simulated environment.
  • The treated plastic may not continue to function as intended. It is essential to include testing environments such as exposure to UV rays, humidity, and release agent use that may affect the effectiveness of antiviral plastics durability test in combination with ISO 21702 or other antimicrobial tests.
  • It can provide important information on how a material performs after exposure to conditions encountered in its intended use environment.
  • Most people request durability testing in conjunction with ISO 21702 testing to determine the effectiveness of antimicrobial products against viruses when exposed to the environment. Using durability and antimicrobial testing through product testing laboratories can support product development and performance testing while reducing the time and costs associated with developing the finished product.
  • Quality control enables customers to provide continuous quality products and ensure that their products perform at their best, one batch at a time.

What is the procedure for the ISO 21702 test method?

The detailed procedure for the iso 21702 test method is given by,

Step 1: The first step is you can prepare the sample for the ISO 21702 antimicrobial test. You can take the specimen as control 9 of 5cmx5cm and test sample 6 of 5cmx5cm. You can take any plastics or textiles for the test process.

Step 2: The second step is sterilization. You can use a sterile sample with 70% of ethanol. This process will help you to remove the impurities from the specimen.

Step 3: The third step is inoculation. For the inoculation process, you will need the OC43, 229E, H3N2, and H1n1 of elements poured on the top of the specimen. You can take 4cmx4cm transparent film to cover the specimen to protect the specimen from the moisture in the atmosphere.

Step 4: The fourth step in the antimicrobial test method is incubation. You can leave the specimen, which is covered by the clear film, for twenty-four hours. You cannot disturb the model. You can keep the temperature for the incubation process at 25 deg c.

Step 6: The fifth step is washing and shaking the specimen after the incubation process. For the washing of the specimen, you will need 20 ml of SCDLP. In the glass jar with SCDLP, you can rinse the sample for the washing process.

Step 7: The last step is processing. The process step can be divided into five parts. They are given by,

Process 1: You can prepare the serial dilutions of the virus for the antimicrobial test method.

Process 2: You can use the seed cells into the 96 wells and allow them to grow the confluency. If you can get the required confluency on the cell, you can add 100 ul of the virus.

Process 3: Next, you can add the fold serial dilutions of the virus to the cells in the multiple-well plate.

Process 4: Now, you can examine each cell wall for the CPE.

Process 5: Finally, you can draw the graph between the infected wells vs. virus dilution, and you can get the result as estimated dilution.

Final words:

You can learn about the detailed procedure for the ISO 21702 antimicrobial test method. The primary purpose of this test is to measure the antiviral activity on the plastics.
