One day after President Biden and Vice President Harris announced their 2024 re-election campaign, one of the nation’s largest Democratic super PACs pledged to spend tens of millions of dollars to support their candidacy.
Priorities USA announced on Wednesday that they would invest $75 million to support Biden and Harris in swing states, including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
The organization stated in a press release that the funds would be used for digital mobilization and persuasion programming, which they hope will have a ripple effect in states with competitive Senate elections.
“It is essential to remind voters of what’s at stake in 2024, and to do so online,” Danielle Butterfield, executive director of Priorities USA, told Politico.
“Access to abortion, protecting the environment, reducing gun control, lowering the cost of health care, and making our economy work for every American will be the focal points of this campaign,” Butterfield said.
According to Politico, the Biden surge began on Wednesday with a six-figure advertising campaign.
Priorities USA, founded in 2011, has positioned itself as one of the nation’s most prominent Democratic super PACs. During the 2020 election cycle, the organization raised approximately $140 million in contributions, nearly all of which went toward supporting Joe Biden and Democrats in tight Senate contests.
According to federal filings, its top outside donors included Michael Bloomberg, Donald Sussman, the Senate Majority PAC aligned with Senator Chuck Schumer, the Sixteen Thirty Fund, and George Soros’ Democracy PAC.
Biden enters the presidential election of 2024 with immense unpopularity among Americans. According to FiveThirtyEight, his approval rating is around 42%.
