Portugal and Al-Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has repeatedly scored many goals for his club and country throughout the years, and it was clear how he reacted after reaching another career milestone.
An emotional Cristiano Ronaldo cried tears of joy after scoring his 900th goal in his career in Portugal’s 2-1 win over Croatia on Thursday in the UEFA Nations League.
Selecao took the lead through Diogo Dalotin in the 7th minute of their opening match in their UEFA Nations League campaign. Al-Nassr striker Cristiano Ronaldo added Poryugal’s second for the night in the 34th minute, his 900th career goal before the first half.
The 39-year-old kicked the ball past Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic after timing his run to perfection to meet a cross from Nuno Mendes on the left. He went towards the corner flag before letting his teammates know about it, full of joy.
In addition to the 769 club goals, Ronaldo’s goal was his 131st for Portugal. Despite his age, Ronaldo shows no signs of slowing down, and he is now setting his sights on his 1000th career goal.
Even before he reached 900 goals, Ronaldo said, in the run-up to the Croatia match, that he intends to go for 1,000. “So n I will do 900 and after that, it will be 1,000,” he told his former Manchester United teammate Rio Ferdinand.
“41, I don’t know,” he said when asked how old he will be when he reaches that milestone. “Mo t importantly, I want to be injury-free. I a m to reach 1,000 goals, excluding one thing: With every goal I score, there will be a video to prove it,” he revealed on the UR Ronaldo channel.
Rio Ferdinand said this was a dig at Pele, who claimed to have scored over a thousand goals during his playing days. “Yo are a b. You re talking about Alfredo Di Stefano, you’re talking about Pele, you’re talking about Eusebio,” Ferdinand said.
Even before scoring against Croatia, Ronaldo earned the goal record in men’s national teams. Only three players—including himself, Lionel Messi, and Ali Daei—had reached a century.
Ronaldo’s goal-scoring records at different clubs comprehensively depict his illustrious career. His nine years with Real Madrid saw him score over a goal a game, contributing 450 of his 769 career goals. He also had successful stints with Manchester United, Juventus, Sporting, and Al-Nassr, his current team.
Ronaldo told NOW that he envisioned retiring from the Saudi Arabian club scene. “I on’t know if I will retire soon, in two or three years, but probably I will retire here at Al-Nassr,” he added. I f el good about this nation and am delighted at the club. Playing in Saudi Arabia makes me happy, and I want to keep doing so.”
