Former Scotland midfielder Craig Burley has warned Gabriel Jesus to sit and wait for next year when his contract expires. Gabriel Jesus has one year left on his Manchester City contract and could leave as a free agent next season.
Mikel Arteta has made the signing of Gabriel Jesus their top priority after the departure of Alexandre lacazette this summer leaving Arsenal with no striker in the team. Arteta who had worked with Gabriel Jesus as an Assistant coach of Manchester City.
However, Arsenal faces competition from Tottenham Hotspurs, Chelsea, and now Real Madrid. There were reports this week that Manchester City has rejected the 40 million Euros bid Tottenham Hotspurs submitted for the Brazilian international claiming it is too low.
What did Craig Burley say?
Speaking on ESPN FC, Craig said: “It’s a difficult one. They need to get players that are going to fill that position for sure. They’ve got some youngsters that have filled the wider positions and Martin Odegaard in behind.
“I think if I was Jesus, I would be inclined to sit and wait, particularly with a year left. Whether Man City tries and dissuades him from doing that by suggesting there won’t be many minutes of game time [next season], I don’t know. Of course, their squad is going to be bolstered by some new signings.
“It’s a difficult one for the player because he’s good enough to go somewhere and become this striker again that we know he is. He’s been utilized in many positions and has done a good job.
“It’s whether you could persuade him to go to Arsenal where is it all about the project?
“At the end of the day, Arsenal are a long way off from challenging for major honors.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal Icon Gilberto Silva and Rio Ferdinand have urged Arsenal to sign Gabriel Jesus.
In an interview with talk sports, the former Brazilian international said: “If he goes to Arsenal I do believe it’s going to be a good move for him, also for Arsenal.
“It’s frustrating for all Arsenal fans and me, they missed the chance to play in the Champions League after a few years. Let’s see.
“I think Arsenal needs to get back to the top of the leagues because it’s so hard to see Arsenal over the last few years not playing in the Champions League, not fighting for the title in the Premier League. I know compared to Man City and Liverpool they aren’t at the same level.
Rio Ferdinand also said on his Youtube Channel, Vibe with Five sayings: “Arsenal must work well to get back to the good times and start to sort the situation out.”
“You speak to players about him, they appreciate him because he puts a good workload in, he has got quality.
“I think if he plays consistently in a team like Arsenal, I think he gets you goals.”
