Coronavirus: 10 inmates at the Ashaiman police station test positive

Ten inmates in the custody at the Ashaiman police station cells in the Greater Accra region have contracted the deadly coronavirus.

Ten inmates in the custody at the Ashaiman police station cells in the Greater Accra region have contracted the deadly coronavirus.

Tests were conducted on 54 samples from the inmates. The infected inmates have been isolated to a different facility for treatment.

Officials from the health directorate of the Ashiaman municipality conducted the exercise. They extracted the samples about two weeks ago.

Law enforcement officers at the station who were also tested are yet to receive their results, Adom TV reported on Wednesday.

Consequently, the police station has scaled up COVID-19 protocols by ensuring strict adherence to wearing of masks, hand washing and social distancing.

Ten inmates in the custody at the Ashaiman police station cells in the Greater Accra region have contracted the deadly coronavirus.

Ghana has recorded 5,127 cases with 494 recoveries and 22 deaths.

Twenty-six districts have been hit by the virus in the Greater Accra Region. According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the hotspot areas in the Greater Accra Region are Tema Metro, Korle-Klottey, Accra Metro and Kpone Katamanso.
