28-year-old William Rodriguez is being detained on a $250,000 bail in the face of many accusations.
A pregnant lady was reportedly assaulted by a Connecticut guy who was trying to steal her car. He was taken into custody.
Following an allegation of an attempted carjacking at a Dunkin’ Donuts drive-thru, the East Haven Police Department issued a statement on Wednesday.
Authorities said that on Tuesday, October 1, at precisely the moment the victim’s automobile was pushed into the parking lot, William Rodriguez, 28, entered the scene.
The woman’s automobile’s passenger side was where Rodriguez reportedly got from his car and demanded her keys. Rodriguez then started hitting the four-month pregnant lady when she wouldn’t give over her keys, preventing her from getting out of the car and running inside the restaurant to get assistance.
Rodriguez was trying to escape in the victim’s car when one employee working inside the drive-through saw the attack and alerted two colleagues, who hurried outside and arrested Rodriguez, according to the police statement.
Rodriquez was still fighting when police came, and after they had him in jail, he bit a paramedic’s hand.
The 2016 Hyundai Elantra that Rodriguez was driving at the time of the attack had previously been reported stolen.
Rodriguez is charged with several offenses, including two counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, multiple counts of breach of peace, second-degree assault on emergency medical personnel, third-degree robbery, second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree assault on a pregnant person, third-degree assault, and interference with an officer.
In addition to many outstanding arrest warrants totaling $475,000 and two outstanding warrants from CSP Troop A and Troop I, he is being detained on a $250,000 bail for the offenses.
In a statement, the East Haven Police Department expressed gratitude for the workers’ efforts at the fast food restaurant.
“The East Haven Police Department commends the quick and courageous actions of the Dunkin’ Donuts employees, who helped bring this dangerous situation under control,” according to the police.
Rodriguez will be arraigned on Wednesday morning after being brought to court.
