Over the summer, Colorado police apprehended a guy accused of keeping eight pups and two kittens in the trunk of a car.
According to police records, the Colorado Springs Police Department executed an arrest warrant for the defendant, who has not been identified, on Wednesday for nine charges of severe animal cruelty and ten counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.
On August 15, CSPD and Animal Law Enforcement from the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region responded to a complaint concerning pets left in a car trunk.
According to a Facebook post by the animal rescue organization, when they arrived, they could hear calls for assistance coming from within the car. When the owner opened the trunk, the cops discovered something “horrific.”
Five of the eight puppies, as well as both kittens, were discovered dead. The animals were all terribly underweight, with bones visible through the skin. After the rescue, two of the surviving pups perished.
One dog discovered in the car survived. The Humane Society called her Griselda, and she has since been adopted.
The incident was investigated by CSPD as animal cruelty before being forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office. The district attorney’s office later issued an arrest warrant.
Officers discovered a hungry dog inside the same truck where the pups and kittens were discovered months later. According to the reports, they also noticed numerous starving dogs chained up in the rear yard.
Animal Law Enforcement also executed a search warrant at the Colorado Springs house where the primary suspect was detained, and the suspect will be charged with 14 additional charges of animal cruelty, according to authorities.
As a consequence of the search, seven adult dogs, seven pups, and a turtle were removed from the house.
